I have a job! I have a job!

I dropped off my documents to the school I interviewed with yesterday at 10:00 AM sharp this morning like a good girl and much to my surprise they ushered me in to talk to them more.  They basically told me I have the job & they're just going to hope my visa goes through.  If it doesn't then perhaps I can continue only teaching the Kinder group (preschool) because for some reason it doesn't matter if you have a work visa for that group?  I didn't really understand the logic but I didn't argue!  I start on Monday and they loaded me up with all sorts of goodies for my class.  I'll be teaching preschool through second grade from 10:00-2:00, Monday-Friday.  They have a whole program they use for English, well a whole program they plan on using for English, they said they had never used it yet but the last program they used wasn't so great so hopefully this one is better!  They sent me home with the teachers book to look at, the students books, audio CDs, CDs for the computer, giant flashcards, even a "Buddy" bear puppet.

This is the book my preschoolers will use.  The kids on the cover look kind of creepy but I guess it's supposed to appeal to small children?
This is "Buddy" the puppet.  According to the teachers manual, he is supposed to help me teach my class and we'll become fast friends.

So now I have to make my lesson plan for next week.  It shouldn't be too hard because the books have suggested lesson plans so I'll just tweak those a bit.  Like taking out the part where I teach the 3 year olds what "shout" means.  That doesn't seem like the best idea to me...

  1. Hey Maggie, I just saw this thing pop up on facebook that you're living in Xalapa. This looks like a blast and I'm really enjoying looking at all the photos you've taken! Hope you're having fun! - Dan Stone (Piedra)
